Each year Loomis Sayles sets aside a portion of our pre-tax income to fund charitable giving targeted at improving the education and health of children and families. We support the following organizations:
Agassiz VillageThe Agassiz Village was founded in 1935 with the intent to teach underserved children valuable life skills and encourage them to reach their full potential as leaders. The summer camp serves almost 1,000 students a year, 85% of which come from low-income or poverty-level families in the greater Boston area. Christine Kenny, managing director of Loomis Sayles’ London-based entity, Loomis Sayles Investments Limited, is a member of the Agassiz Village’s Board of Directors.
Boston Children’s ChorusLoomis Sayles is dedicated to supporting the Boston Children’s Chorus, an organization that brings together hundreds of students from both privileged and underserved neighborhoods in Boston through the power of music and performance. The students learn discipline, develop leadership skills, and proudly represent the city of Boston through programs designed to create meaningful relationships within the community. Loomis Sayles’ Vice President, Director of Corporate Communications, and Chairwoman of the Charitable Giving Committee, Meg Clough is a member of the Board of Directors.
Boston BalletLoomis, Sayles & Company is also proud to be the lead sponsor of the Boston Ballet’s “Taking Steps” program for over a decade. The program, for inner city girls aged 11-14, offers after-school instruction in dance, drama, movement, music and visual arts. Additionally, we sponsor the Boston Ballet’s “Boys in Motion” program which provides underserved middle school-aged boys with an after school artistic outlet. Loomis Sayles also sponsors Boston Ballet's two-week summer camp dedicated to training young women from disadvantaged communities in dance and artistic expression.
Boston Medical Center Boston Medical Center’s pediatric asthma program is dedicated to delivering the highest quality care to children and adolescents by providing patients and families with exceptional and complete medical care, without exception. Loomis Sayles proudly supports the program’s efforts to care for children suffering from the disease, which affects almost seven million children in the United States.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of BostonLoomis Sayles supports three of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston: Blue Hill, South Boston, and the Yawkey Club of Roxbury. The clubs’ mission is to help young people build strong character and realize their full potential as responsible citizens and leaders by providing them with a safe haven filled with hope and opportunity, ongoing relationships with caring adults, and life-enhancing programs throughout the school year and summer. Loomis Sayles’ Vice President and Product Manager, Kenneth M. Johnson, is a member of the Board of Overseers for the organization.
The Elizabeth Seton FoundationThe Elizabeth Seton Foundation’s sole mission is to provide financial and in-kind support to the Elizabeth Seton Nutrition Center and School in Baní, Dominican Republic with its members donating their time and talent in the areas of medical, dental, educational, nutritional training, computer training and micro finance. Meg Clough, Loomis Sayles’ Vice President, Director of Corporate Communications, and Chairwoman of the Charitable Giving Committee, is also President of the Foundation’s Board of Directors. Employees also support Las Artesanas Marisposas, a group of women from the center who create homemade crafts which are sold to support families and the center itself.
The Inner City Scholarship FundThe Inner City Scholarship Fund helps thousands of children in primarily high poverty neighborhoods to receive partial scholarships to attend schools in some of the most underserved areas of Boston.
Mother Caroline Academy and Education CenterMother Caroline Academy is a private, tuition free school serving financially-limited young girls of all faiths, races and cultures from Boston neighborhoods, and aims to provide a high quality education that develops the individual gifts of each student and prepares her for success in competitive secondary schools and college. Loomis Sayles is committed to assisting in Mother Caroline’s mission to enrich the education of Boston’s underserved girls. Loomis Sayles’ Vice President and Director of Convertibles and Special Situations, Diana L. Monteith, is chair of Mother Caroline’s Board of Trustees.
Project Hope Loomis Sayles holds numerous annual volunteer events with Project Hope. These include professional clothing drives, mock interview sessions and communication training. Loomis Sayles also hosts a panel of employees to provide students with advice and insight on joining the professional workforce. Our Executive Vice President and Director of Institutional Services, John F. Gallagher, III, serves on Project Hope’s Board of Directors. Project Hope is a multi-service agency that works towards moving families up and out of poverty. It provides low-income women with children access to education, jobs, housing, and emergency services, fosters their personal transformation, and works for broader systems change.
Rose Kennedy GreenwayJust outside of Loomis Sayles' Boston office is the Rose Kennedy Greenway – the city’s only organically maintained public park. Twice a year, a group of Loomis Sayles employees roll up their sleeves to help make landscaping improvements to the Greenway. The Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy creates events geared toward Boston’s multi-generational and multi-cultural audiences. The organically maintained park boasts extremely low water consumption as well as plants that are healthier, more resilient, and better able to withsta
nd the wear of public use – ideal for children and pets.
Roxbury Youthworks Roxbury Youthworks, one of Boston’s oldest minority-based organizations, focuses on assisting at-risk youth and their families who are struggling to overcome life challenges.
Strong Women Strong Girls Strong Women Strong Girls was founded in 2000 as a small mentoring program and has since grown into an expansive network, serving over 800 young Greater Boston girls in need. The organization works to counter the social pressures that discourage girls in underserved communities by combining multi-generational group mentoring to build a community of strength around every girl. Elementary-aged girls are introduced to colleges and careers, are taught to increase self-confidence and build leadership skills with the help of committed college women. Elaine Stokes, Loomis Sayles' Vice President and Portfolio Manager, is a member of the organization's regional board.
Summer Search Loomis Sayles is actively involved in the Summer Search internship and mentor program for underserved high school and college students, supporting the organization by hosting interns each summer. Loomis Sayles’ Vice President, Director of Corporate Communications, and Chairwoman of our Charitable Giving Committee, Meg Clough, serves on Summer Search Boston’s Board of Directors.
uAspireEvery summer, Loomis Sayles employees come together to create care packages filled with college necessities and handwritten, personal notes for graduating uAspire students heading off to college. Beginning in 2014, Loomis Sayles hosted uAspire’s Last Dollar Scholarship Orientation, which celebrates the hard work of graduating high school students. uAspire partners with high schools, community organizations, and colleges to provide college affordability advice to more than 10,000 young people and their families every year, giving college-ready students the support and knowledge they need to overcome financial barriers and succeed in college.
